Do you like Big Beautiful Dogs & Gentle Giants? Don't mind dog hair? Then check out this handsome duo! -- MJ is a cream-colored 3 year old Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix. -- Blitzen is a pure white 1 year old Great Pyrenees/Akbash mix. They were picked up together by animal control and their owner never came for them. They've been living at a foster home so we've gotten to know them. Both are very friendly and have been exposed to goats, chickens, other dogs, and cats. They would be great pets for a home in the city or a country home that has livestock and poultry BUT ARE UNFORTUNATELY NOT SUITABLE AS WORKING LIVESTOCK GUARDIANS. ... (Read More)Blitzen is still young so gets along with all other dogs. MJ gets along with most dogs but can be a bit selective. Both are great with humans and MJ would even make a great therapy dog! Both dogs are NEUTERED, VACCINATED, & HW NEGATIVE! They are ready to go home and be a member of your family! The adoption fee is $125 each. If you adopt both together, there is a Friends Furever discount that makes their adoption fee only $100 each! Anatolian Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I met Luke at the spay/neuter clinic when I took another load of critters to fix. One of the techs showed him to me and explained that he came from a ranch. They had to give him up because a smaller/timid dog was afraid of this gentle giant. So I agreed to take him and rehome him -- which hopefully will happen soon because Luke wants to adopt me! LOL We weighed him to get him fixed. 90 lbs He's on HW preventative, is house trained . . . and is a Houdini! Luke spent his first night here -- part of it, anyway -- in a long covered pen. He managed to get the gate open and met my husband at the back door at 0600 this morning! He parks himself ... (Read More)near the door of whichever room I'm in. I had to go on an errand, a few minutes ago. Nobody else was at home. I returned to find Luke on the front sidewalk, waiting for me. [sigh] That makes twice within his first 24 hrs here that he could have taken off for his former home. But he didn't. I really don't need another dog, folks! And, by the way, he's also friendly with these other dogs . . . AND my husband. P.S. I'm listing him as "Luke the Lover" because we have another Luke listed. (Less)

Lacey is a 2 yr old Pyrenees mix. She is an extremely sweet and kind girl that is very gregarious and playful with all my other dogs. She is very submissive at this time. These dogs are slow to mature. She still acts like a puppy in spite of her size. She has the double dew claws of the Great Pyrenees and beautiful expressive brown eyes that are lined with eyeliner. I would guess her secondary breed as possible Australian Shepherd or Anatolian. Pictures really do not do her justice. Her coat will be easier to care for than a pure bred pyrenees but it is still thick and luxurious. She will need a large fenced yard. This is not a livestock ... (Read More)guardian dog, but a pet.     Anatolian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. The Anatolian Shepherd is a large breed with strong herding instincts. Anatolian Shepherds need strong leadership from their masters and are matched best with owners who have experience training dogs. An Anatolian Shepherd is a very loyal dog with strong protective instincts towards its loved ones. Anatolian Shepherds are wary of strangers and need to be introduced to new people. An Anatolian Shepherd is very friendly towards people he knows well. Anatolian Shepherds are caring towards children, but may not know their own strength and therefore need to be supervised around younger kids. A large fenced yard or farm environment is best for Anatolian Shepherds. Its ability to herd animals and protect the perimeter of a property makes the Anatolian Shepherd an excellent working dog.

Anatolian Shepherd
lnteresting Anatolian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost Texas Spay & Neuter Clinics
Anatolian Shepherds have long been valued by herdsmen for their ability to best wolves in a fight. Anatolian Shepherds are very closely related, some say identical, to the Kangal, which is the national dog of Turkey. Exporting Kangal dogs from Turkey involves so many restrictions that it is effectively outlawed. Anatolian Shepherds have such strong herding instincts that they will treat other household pets as their flock and become very protective of them. Anatolian Shepherds are very independent and will take personal responsibility for guarding a flock.
